Drew Meets with Coach Fisher

Florida State has hosted many elite recruits during the first session of the Jimbo Fisher Camp. That trend continued Friday as Thomasville standout defensive end Ray Drew was in popped in town for a visit. NoleDigest spoke to him Friday night about his most recent trip to FSU.

Ray Drew is one of the premier players at his position for the 2011 recruiting class. As we enter summer Ray has emerged as one of the most heavily recruited players in the south.

Florida State has been one of Drew's top schools since his recruitment started. The Thomasville County Central star has been to Florida State several times, but it has been a while since he stopped by for a visit.

Friday he came to check things out and to get a chance to talk to the coaches at FSU. The visit really wasn't planned as Ray told NoleDigest he made the decision to visit Thursday.

"I decided yesterday to come for a visit," said Drew. "There wasn't any particular reason why I came to visit as it was just to visit. I came with my parents, brother and little cousin. Pretty much I spent the entire time with Coach Fisher."

Lately there has been a lot of internet chatter that FSU, once considered the favorite for Ray's signature, had slipped substantially as a school of interest for Drew. He denies that is even the case.

"I'm here aren't I," chuckled Drew. "I think people are saying that is because I've gone to some other schools and been getting on other campuses."

Drew has publically stated that he's been in the process of building his relationship with new head coach Jimbo Fisher. Ray was a huge fan of Bobby Bowden, but now he is learning about what Coach Fisher has in store for the Seminole program. Meeting with Fisher was the primary reason for the visit, and he told NoleDigest that it went well.

"I was pretty much in a meeting with Coach Fisher the entire time I was there," said Drew of his visit. "We were in his office for about 2 hours. We talked about the change of staff and what they are trying to build. They are trying to put the program back on track. It went well."

Ray has been to FSU so many times now that there really isn't' nothing new to see. Building relationships with the new coaches is the focus and it sounds like Ray got a good chance to do that Friday.

Drew plans on checking out some more schools this summer, starting with Florida tomorrow.
