Catching up with Denzel Perryman

Denzel Perryman has been on the recruiting scene since starring as a sophomore for Coral Gables Senior High school. Now that he is approaching 20 offers Perryman is taking the recruiting process in stride. NoleDigest caught up with Perryman to talk about his recruitment and to talk about his interest in the Seminoles.

Coral Gables middle linebacker Denzel Perryman has been a player to watch since he was named All-Dade County as a sophomore. After another strong year as a junior that saw him garner All-State recognition Denzel has developed into one of Florida's top defenders for 2011.

With 18 offers in hand Perryman says he is pretty surprised about the attention he is getting, but at the same time he is enjoying the process.

"There are more schools showing interest and I totally like this recruiting thing," said Perryman of his process. "I was surprised I got all of these offers this early. Schools like LSU, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Florida, Florida State, Miami, USF, West Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina, Boston College, Rutgers and Texas Tech are the schools that have offered."

With the close proximity to Miami people who follow recruiting feel that the Hurricanes are the odds-on-favorite to land the hard-hitting linebacker. Perryman told NoleDigest all of that talk is a little premature as he is open to everyone.

"I am still open right now to the process," Perryman said, "so all of that talk about how I am going to Miami, you can cancel that out."

Denzel attended one of FSU's Junior Day events back in February. He talked about the visit saying he was impressed.

"I went down to FSU's Junior Day in February," explained Perryman. "I liked it a lot. I have to go by what I see. I have to look into these schools. With FSU I thought it was nice and it had a nice environment."

"I thought the coaches were cool and nice to talk to," continued Perryman on the visit. "They like me in the middle and feel I can bring something to the team. I talked to Coach Fisher before the visit but he was telling me what they are doing as a team and the things they're working on. It was pretty good."

Denzel is in no rush to make any decisions or trim his list. In the meantime he is going to work on his game this summer in order to have a strong senior season.

"I will take visits before I make any kind of decision and I will not be committing for a while," said Perryman. "I don't have any visits planned right now and I don't know if I will be making any soon. Right now I am just working on my footwork and becoming faster."
