Happy Thanksgiving: Dent Commits to FSU

On a day full of thanks FSU has a lot to be excited about as athlete Greg Dent has decided to decommit from Miami and commit to the Seminoles. NoleDigest has an exclusive update with Greg to talk about the commitment and his reasons for choosing the ‘Noles.

A month ago it looked as though it was only a matter of time before Belle Glade star Greg Dent was going to commit to Florida State. Earlier this month Dent shocked some when he pulled the trigger for the Miami Hurricanes after it looked like FSU was waiting on offering.

By pure coincidence the offer from the Seminoles came the same day as Dent's commitment to Miami, and after it came there was immediate speculation if his initial commitment would hold true. After initially wanting to stick to the Canes Dent decided to go ahead and follow his heart and play wide receiver for FSU.

"I've always wanted to go to FSU, and my heart won't allow me to play defensive back," said Dent of his decision to choose FSU Thursday. "FSU wants me at wide receiver, and that is what I want to play."

Greg has been in constant contact with the coaches at FSU even after his commitment to Miami. He's talked to Coach Coley and Coach Dawsey the most and he says they have known for a bit his decision to come to FSU.

"Well DJ (DeJoshua Johnson) told them he was coming for sure and then I told Coach Coley and Coach Dawsey I was coming," said Dent. "I also spoke to Coach Carter, too. Coach Coley and Coach Dawsey are coming Friday. I am excited. Tomorrow I am calling up there to talk to Coach Bowden. I was going to wait until after states but I decided to go ahead and put it out there now."

What were the main factors in Dent's decision to switch? He sees a lot of opportunity on offense to excel and a chance to contribute in multiple ways.

"What I like most about FSU is they pass the ball a lot and they give their players time to shine," said Dent of the Seminoles. "Going to FSU means a lot to me because I will have a chance to help the team win games on offense and special teams."

Getting Dent to flip is a huge because he is having an excellent senior year and he is arguably one of the top players in south Florida for 2010.
