The Bobby Bowden Camp is underway and there are a ton of recruits in town for the next week that'll be participating in the event. Often times this is when recruits who are under the radar get noticed and it is an opportunity for coaches to evaluate the young up and coming players over the next few classes. One of the recruits who have gotten offered is 2011 defensive end Ray Drew
. After the first day Drew showed he's going to be a force next year in the 2011 class.
Ray Drew Talks FSU Camp, Offer and Recruitment
While Ray Drew has a long way to go until his recruitment starts he has been impressive at a few camps so far this summer. The Thomas County Central High standout was impressive at the Alabama
camp, and Friday his play earned him an offer from Florida State
"The Alabama camp was good," Drew said, "and it was hard. The drills in general were a little tougher than here at FSU. Over there (at Alabama) it was also in the triple digits so that made it harder. Like FSU I like the coaches at Alabama. The FSU camp was good with the drills and all. I feel that I did pretty well and that I was one of the better ones there."
Ray's offer sheet is only at 4 but it is an impressive list. He says right now he is taking everything in stride and letting things come to him.
"I have offers now from Georgia
, Alabama, Florida
and now FSU," said Drew. "Those are some pretty good offers. Georgia Tech
is pretty interested and UCLA
has sent some things, but otherwise it has been mainly questionnaires."
"Right now everyone is in the running and it is a waiting game," said Drew of his recruitment. "I'm just letting things come to me which will allow me to see who really wants me. The big thing for me is seeing whoever puts more time in me the most."
Drew plans on heading to Orlando next week for vacation but says that potential visits to Georgia Tech and Georgia are a possibility over the next few weeks.
Elliot Porter Having a Great Time at FSU Camp
Archbishop Shaw standout Elliot Porter arrived in town yesterday for the camp. He told NoleDigest that he's participating in drills and that he's been enjoying working with Coach Haggins.
"The camp is going well," said Porter early Saturday afternoon. "We're just doing drills and all that. I'm really enjoying working with Coach Haggins. He is great."
About 3 weeks ago Porter was blown away from an unofficial visit to FSU, and he says this camp visit goes a long way in helping the Seminoles case.
"This camp helps FSU," Porter said, "because it's been great working with Coach Haggins. He has been telling me I've been doing well and that I have good hands and I move my feet well. It has just been a good time for me so far."
Porter has a visit to LSU next week so look for an announcement to come from the 3-star defensive linemen before the summer is over.
-FSU has offered Greenville-Wade Hampton (South Carolina) standout Hakeem Flowers. Flowers projects as a wide reciver on the next level.
-NoleDigest spoke to Lamarcus Joyner and we'll have more later from that update. He says right now his top 3 are FSU, Ohio State and Georgia. Word is the visit is going well.
-Brandon Willis is not in town, but we have heard his father is, and we've heard the visit is going as expected. FSU sits in a good spot right now.
