Lowndes Standout Talks FSU and Recruiting
With a second visit in less than a month it looks as though the ‘Noles are in a good spot at this time. While Telvin missed most of the spring game, he did say he enjoyed what he was able to see.
"The visit this past weekend was really good," said Smith. "The best thing was that I got to go onto the field for the first time. That was an amazing experience for me."
"With this visit I was late because of a track meet," Smith said, "so I missed most of the game. When I got there I walked onto the field to see the players and all of that. When I went out there I was like man, this is great. I just soaked it all in. I pictured what it'd be like playing in front of over 85,000 screaming Seminole fans."
After the spring game was over Telvin followed the players and recruits into the locker room, where he got a chance to talk to the coaches and some of his fellow recruits from the 2010 class.
"The recruits went into the locker room with the team after," explained Smith. "I stopped by Coach Fisher's office and talked to him about the defense for a few minutes. That was good. I think that I fit into FSU's defense well as an outside linebacker and that I could come in there and make some plays. I also talked a lot with the linebacker from Orlando, Christian Jones. We had a long conversation about our high schools, what we play and recruiting. He was telling me how his dad played at FSU but how he still wanted to make sure he was making the right decision. We clicked and I thought he was a real good dude."
Telvin has a frame where he'll add a lot of weight once he gets in a collegiate weightlifting program. There have been discussions on if he will move to defensive end in college, but Smith says he intends on staying at linebacker from here on out.
"I've played defensive end at Lowndes, but last year they moved me to linebacker to help the team," stated Smith on where he plays. "I'm playing primarily linebacker from here on out. I don't want to add to much weight because I feel that my game is speed and hitting. I want to get to around 220 because I feel that I will be able to keep the tings that'll let me play the way I do."
Heading into the May evaluation period Smith says he has 8 offers from schools all over the nation. As it stands right now he expects more offers to come, but they'll have to chase down his leader: FSU.
"I really like FSU because of the coaching staff," said Smith. "They are relaxed and they get on a personal level with you. Not only are they good coaches, but they get on a personal level with you."
"Also with guys like Gerald Demps, Greg Reid and Ed Christian going to FSU, it helps," continued Smith on why FSU stands out to him. "Gerald doesn't really say too much, but Greg and Ed have been coming at me the hardest about coming. My uncle is also a huge FSU fan. Between him and Greg, who is like family to me, they are all pulling for me to go to FSU. It'd be like a big family trip every Saturday for them to come see us play."
FSU sits in a good spot right now with Telvin, but before a decision is made he wants to take some visit to make sure he is making the right choice. Telvin told NoleDigest he intends on making his decision a few weeks before his senior year gets underway.
"I just want to check out other schools right now and see if anywhere else can open my eyes like FSU has," said Smith. "I just got an offer from LSU. That is a school I'd like to check out because they're in the SEC and they're a good program."
"I am planning on making my decision a few weeks before school starts so I can focus on school itself," continued Smith. "I have two more classes to take that will get me into the clearinghouse. I've taken the ACT and got a 16, but I am going to take it again here pretty soon. My making my decision in the late summer I can turn my attention to my academics and my team."
Stay tuned to NoleDigest for further updates with Telvin, as well as the rest of the recruiting targets for FSU.
