Commitment number 5 is in, and it is from one of the top playmakers in the nation for the 2009 recruiting class. NoleDigest caught up with the newest commitment to talk about his decision and how the Seminoles plan to use him when he gets to FSU in the fall of '09.

The Seminoles class for 2009 is off to an amazing start. Usually fans have seen Florida State close well, but with the new staff came change. Monday the Seminoles had another top-notch playmaker commit early when Madison star Chris Thompson made the decision to become a Seminole. For Chris, it was always where it wanted to be. "I committed to Florida State on Monday. This is the best felling I have had in my life so far. It feels great to get this done. I was tired of holding out with the decision. I knew that's where I wanted to be. Honestly I knew the whole time that FSU is the school for me," said Thompson.

Chris Thompson is a dynamic football player and is one of the most versatile athletes in the country. As a junior he helped lead the Madison Cowboys to the state title, as he rushed for 2,256 yards and 33 scores. It's really no wonder why he's earned the nickname of "lightning". One of the reasons he chose to commit to FSU is because of current offensive coordinator and future head man Jimbo Fisher. He tells NoleDigest, "When I told my parents they were really happy about it. They talked to Coach Fisher and know that he is a good person. They like that I'll be playing for someone like him. When I told Coach Fisher I was committed he was excited and shocked at the same time. He was happy though that I made the choice."

The versatility that Thompson brings as a football player will allow Fisher to use the talented star in many ways. The plans that Fisher has talked to Thompson about in terms of how he wants to use him is intriguing to Chris. "He talked to me about how he wants to use me as a running back, in the slot and as a kick returner," said Thompson. "They like me as an athlete. The way that Coach Fisher wants to use me is how I want to be used on the next level, and that's how I will succeed. I really like the offense and in my opinion I think Coach Fisher is one of the best offensive coordinators in the nation. His type of offense fits me."

The way that the coaches intend on using Chris is not the only reason he has decided to commit to the Noles. He continues with the reasoning as to why he made the choice, saying, "I like the team and I feel that I can get to know the players really well. It has always been FSU. Schools like Clemson never really were in it. No other school pursued me like FSU did."

Chris says that now that the decision is done, he plans on working on building onto a class that is one of the best for '09. "I'm done with the process. Now I'm going to work on some local kids and try to talk to people about joining us at FSU. After that I am going to work on other kids across the country," expressed Thompson.

With the commitment in place, Chris stated that he intends to still go to a few combines and camps this summer, and that they'll revolve around what the Seminoles are doing. He said, "I'm still going to go to any camp FSU has and see what's going on. I'll go to some Scout.com combines and some Nike camps that are around here. FSU will be the only school I camp at, I think."

When talking to Chris you get a sense of relief that he was able to end the recruiting process early. He does most of his talking on the field, but he is very content with the decision he made. "I'm happy that I'm done with this. I'm a Nole now and very happy about it. I've talked it over with many people, even my preacher, and I'm going to help put the fear back in the spear," said Thompson.

Stay tuned to NoleDigest for further updates with Chris as we track his senior season at Madison High.
