At the time of Alexander's commitment some thought it had come out of the blue. After checking out the Noles he made the surprise decision to commit. Soon after there were rumblings that he was wavering on his commitment to the Noles, and ultimately he decided to de-commit. Alexander states there wasn't any reason for the change except the desire to take his visits, saying, "After I committed I thought about looking around at some other schools. I didn't want to be committed doing that so I did what I did. Nothing bad happened or anything, but I just wanted to keep an open mind."
For some people it has come as a surprise that the Seminoles and A.J. are talking again. For Alexander, FSU was a school that he kept his eye on throughout the season. With that he wanted to reach out to the coaching staff to see if there was any interest left, contacting his previous recruiter Rick Trickett. "I started talking to Coach Trickett again and wanted to see if there was any interest. I told him that I wanted them to be back in it. He said there was so I scheduled the visit for the 18th. Obviously I like them because I committed to them before, but I want to go there and check everything out again" stated Alexander.
The relationship with Coach Trickett is a reason why Alexander is taking another look at what the Seminoles have to offer. He said, "With Trickett, I just like him. He is a funny dude and I guy I can talk to. He told me they are looking at me as an athlete right now and may use me as a back or receiver."
For Alexander the visit to FSU will be his last official before he makes a final decision on Signing Day. Traditionally the school that gets the last visit with recruits usually bodes well for the school, but Alexander states he'll be coming to Tallahassee with an open mind. He stated, "The timing of the visit is just that this is when I can get down there. I am open right now and I like all of these schools evenly. I'm going to go to the school I like the most. After I make the visit with my mom this weekend I'll talk to her and see what's best. Distance will not be a factor in the end."
Right now it looks as though the Noles will have to impress Alexander in order to regain his commitment. As we saw last year with Antwane Greenlee, this coaching staff can get it done. Alexander is a burner that the Noles are lacking, and he is a guy who'd make an immediate impact on the kicking game the Noles need. After next weekend's visit we'll see where the Noles stand.
