McClure eager to play childhood favorite-Bama
When he was younger, Darius found himself extremely fond of the Crimson Tide. "When I was a kid, all the way up to my ninth grade year I was an Alabama fan… My bedroom was all Alabama, all that." Florida State was never much of a factor to him until he decided to take a visit to Tallahassee. "I came on an unofficial visit with one of my high school coaches here and that is when I started liking Florida State, then I started getting recruited by Auburn and they were the first team to recruit me so I committed." Although McClure had committed to his favorite teams rival, it didn't last long. "Then Florida State came into the picture and I switched up." Four years later, McClure finds himself wearing the garnet and gold every game day. Being an Alabama fan all his life, it may seem strange that he chose not to play for the Crimson Tide. He was recruited by them, but the coaching carousel that was taking place at the time pushed him away. "They recruited me but it seemed like I got recruited by about 10 different coaches… My senior year they came back into the picture with the Coach Shula era and I wasn't interested. I had already made up my mind where I wanted to go." Although Alabama is a school that seems foreign to Florida State as far as meeting them in the regular season, Darius McClure knows the personal that will be suiting up for them better then most. "I know over 50 percent (of Alabama), I actually have a god brother named Tyrone King, the one who stripped Darren McFadden on the kickoff last week, so it will be good playing against him. I also played with a bunch of them; I have been playing against them since we were young kids." McClure is more then excited to play this game and expects a big turn out of friends and family back home to come see him. "The whole city of Birmingham is coming." Due to a dinged up secondary last season, McClure found himself backing up both Roger Williams and Myron Rolle at free safety and strong safety respectively. This season, he has focused mainly backing up Williams at free safety and is preparing to take over the role next season upon Williams' graduation.
