"I've been to Florida and Florida State numerous times and I just plan to visit LSU and make my decision soon after that," said Melvin Ray. He hasn't scheduled an official visit with LSU yet, but says he plans to do so early in the season. In the meantime, he's attending the Florida camp on July 20 and hopes to make the Florida State camp on July 12.

Melvin Ray the 6-foot-3, 202-pound four-star wide receiver from Tallahassee, Fla., says he has 13 scholarship offers and has already narrowed his primary focus to three of those schools.

Ray, ranked No. 36 in the Southeast by Scout.com, said he favors LSU, Florida State and Florida big over Alabama and Georgia. All of his favorites have offered. He also has offers from Clemson, Tennessee, Maryland, Miami, Arizona State, South Carolina and Mississippi.

"I've been to Florida and Florida State numerous times and I just plan to visit LSU and make my decision soon after that," said the North Florida Christian High School star.

"I grew up watching Florida State," Ray said. "I live like 10 minutes away and it's all about the Seminoles around here. I've always been a big fan of theirs and I just remember watching a lot of amazing athletes come through Florida State. They also have great crowds and it's a fun place to be at. Doak Campbell Stadium is amazing and they just seem to love big playmakers and that's what I think I am."

Despite growing up liking the 'Noles, Ray insists the Tigers, Gators and 'Noles are all even. "It's really gonna be a difficult decision," he said. "I think it'll just be where I feel the most at home. I can't go wrong with any of these football-wise, so it'll just be about the people and where I'm the most comfortable.

"I like the campus at Florida a lot and the people there really love football," Ray said. "The coaches are real people-oriented and very laid-back. It's a fun environment and the fans are great too. I love how they run like four-wide. It's a great place for a receiver. You're gonna get your touches there.

"LSU has a great offense too," he said. "I like how they build up their receivers and help their careers. They really produce great players. I also like how the coaches like to mix things up on the offense and they have a passing attack that really showcases the wide receiver."

Regarding Alabama and Georgia, Ray said, "I don't feel their offenses are right for me."

Ray reports a 2.8 core GPA and a 980 SAT, which he plans to retake in the fall.
