Pro Baseball or Not?

Late in the recruiting process, the Seminoles found a gem of a prospect from Tyrone (GA) Sandy Creek. The 6-foot-2 and 195 pound wide receiver is also a top baseball prospect who will drafted in June in the Major League Baseball draft.

Brent Brewer is considered by many to be top-rated football-baseball prospect. Coach Bobby Bowden and Mike Martin will be sweating thing out this summer. Will the four-year Varsity football-baseball high school athlete go pro or be a student-athlete at Florida State.

“All I doing right now is thinking about my career at Florida State,” Brent Brewer said. “I’m having a pretty good season so far in baseball.”

The senior shortstop is indeed having an excellent year on the diamond by averaging :530 at the plate along with five homeruns and 25 runs batted in.

“There’s been a lot scouts at my games lately,” he said. “I’m hearing that I can be drafted anywhere from the first through the fifth round. I don’t want to miss out on the college experience but if I want to play baseball down the road then going right into the minors right away is a possibility. It’s probably going come down to where I’m drafted. I might go pro if I’m , If I’m drafted in the first two rounds.”

Brewer, who is good friends with D’Vontrey Richardson talks with his future Seminole teammate all the time.

“D’Vontrey is having a good season as well,” he said. “We talk about Florida State all the time. He wants to redshirt so he can focus on grades and playing baseball. The coaches want me to play right away because of the depth at wide receiver. I’m going to be awarded the No.13 jersey.”

Once Brewer was offered by Florida State and he took his official visit to Tallahassee, it was a no-brainer that he was going to don the Garnet & Gold for the next four years.

“I loved everything about Florida State and the atmosphere was amazing,” he said. “My parents loved it and they wanted me to attend Florida State.”

D’Vontrey’ Richardson’s former high school teammate Buster Posey is a star shortstop for the Seminoles. The signing of Brewer could change things up.

“I’m not sure what’s going to happen,” Brewer said. “But, I’ve heard that they might move Buster over to third base.”

Those of you who normally don’t have interest in the MLB draft might be tuned in on June 7th to see if the Seminoles will retain their two-sport star or not.
