Straightened Out and Starting

The mistakes that plagued PK Gary Cismesia at the start of fall camp appear to be behind him, and the starting position that nearly slipped away is now his for the game against Miami.

"He started kicking better. I think he hit 7-for-7 in our last kicking scrimmage," head coach Bobby Bowden said. "That's what you want, you know, the consistency part of it."

There was a time when the coaching staff considered using a committee of kickers. While Cismesia struggled to find a rhythm, Chase Goggans was on the mark from short distances and Graham Gano demonstrated his deep range.

But after a meeting with former FSU kicker Bill Capece during the middle of two-a-days, Cismesia was able to correct his problems and regain some lost confidence.

"I was pulling my head and I wasn't following through straight," Cismesia said. "It was minor stuff that I should've corrected on my own, but having another guy that kicked helped."
