Cornerback Korey Mangum of La Marque (TX) didn’t get the hype of his teammate Clearance Ward. However, defensive back Coach Mickey Andrews is very happy to have the 5-foot-11 and 180 pound standout on his side.
Cornerback
Korey Mangum
is a physical cornerback who turned heads at the Army All-American practices in addition to his new position coach.
“Korey made the most of his opportunities out there in San Antonio, sticking with the wideouts and showing that he, too, has game. Mangum looked very good in coverage,” Scout.com Recruiting Analyst Stacey Dean said.
The Texas defensive back even got praise from his fellow All-Star teammates.
“He’s a lot better than I expected,” five-star tight end
Martellus Bennett
said. “He definitely deserves to be here.”
“He’s a guy played solid football all year,” Seminole Defensive Coordinator Mickey Andrews said. “He also played well in Army All-Star game. He’s a guy that likes to get up there and play bump and run. He’s a physical player who is a good tackler. That’s the thing offenses are making corners do just now especially with blocking out safeties. If corners can’t make tackles, then you got problems. I think he’s a guy that will help us out.”
Mangum finished his junior season with 76 tackles, six picks, two fumbles caused and two fumble recoveries. Mangum can bench 285 pounds, squats 445 and he has a 34-inch vertical jump.
Mangum will also be joined by two of his La Marque teammates in
Russell Ball
and
Clarence Ward
.
