Leon Washington is Back Home

Posted Dec 28, 2004

Arguably the most valuable player to the Seminole offense the last two years has been Leon Washington. The 5-foot-9 and 200 pound running back injured his shoulder near the end of the season and he was never quite 100% which hurt the Nole offense in some key games. Now that that he’s healthy again the former Jacksonville (Fla.) Jackson standout is ready to show the hometown what he’s got.

“Naturally, he’s a 100-yard rusher a game,” Head Coach Bobby Bowden said. When he got injured, it hurt us.”

What’s it like being home?

“I got a little over 50 tickets that I need,” Leon Washington said. “It’s going to be fun playing in front of my family and friends. It’s going to be like in high school. I played little league football in the old Gator Bowl but this will be the first time that I’ve played in Alltel stadium.

With the disappointing loss to Florida, how do you stay motivated?

“Most of the senior haven’t won a bowl game so it would be nice to help them get one,” he said. ‘I’m coming back next year for my senior season so it would be nice to get some momentum.”
