Last April Athlete Matt Dunham of Columbus (GA) Pacelli pulled the trigger and committed to the Noles. Find out what’s he’s doing now and why he decided to wear the Garnet & Gold for the next four to five years of his life.
“
Florida State
is the place to play football,”
Matt Dunham
said. “The whole staff is great and I wanted to get my commitment over with so it didn’t interfere with my senior season.”
There have been reports that Dunham isn’t quite done with his recruitment. How sold is he on the Seminoles?
“I’m going to take some visits but I’m not sure where yet,” he said. “I’m 100% sure that I’m going to stick with Florida State though.”
Right now he checks in at 6-foot-2 and 223 pounds with a 4.58 40-yard dash. The future Seminole also benches 350 pounds and squats an impressive 600 pounds.
With his size, speed and overall athletic ability, Dunham could play a variety of positions in college, including running back, defensive end or linebacker.
“I’m not sure where Florida State plans on playing me but I wouldn’t mind playing running back or defensive back,” he said. “Although, I will play anywhere they want me to play.”
As a junior, Dunham rushed the ball 121 times for 1,620 yards, which is a 13.3 yards per carry average, and he scored 28 touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 87 yards and returned two punts for touchdowns and those are just his offensive statistics. On the defensive side of the ball, he recorded 111 tackles and six interceptions.
Dunham told The Territory.org that his strengths on the gridiron are field vision and knowing where everyone is on the field.
This summer, he is also hard at work on qualifying academically for college.
“I’m taking a Senior English class in summer school,” he said. “I took the SAT test already and I came close to getting a qualifying score. I’m now waiting on my results from last time I took it.”
Two years ago (class of 2003) his brother
Cliff Dunham
signed a letter of intent with
South Carolina
but he never enrolled because of academics. Now he’s a sophomore at Butler community college and he might have interest in joining his younger brother in Tallahassee.
“He’s talking about walking on at Florida State, “the younger Dunham said. “I’m not sure when he finishes school yet.”
Over the summer, Dunham will either attend Florida State’s football camp or visit the Noles unofficially.
Dunham was also offered a scholarship by
Auburn
, Florida,
Georgia Tech
and
Maryland
.
