FSU And UM On The Verge Of Offering?

Each year there are players that get very little hype that actually deserve a lot of publicity. A safety prospect from Belle Glade (Fla.) Central is one of those recruits that fit that mold. However, college coaches from across the country sure know about him.
Randy Phillips
, a 6-foot-2 and 190 pound safety with 4.48 speed, has got a lot of attention from college coaches, including
Miami
and
Florida State
.
“I’ve talked with Miami Coach Cristobal on the phone and he told me what I needed to do like keep working hard,” Phillips said. “He told me that Miami is recruiting five defensive backs and they are going to take three of them. Along with me, they are looking at
Demetrius Morley
, Kenny Philips,
Avery Atkins
and a player from Ely. I saw Coach Lilly at the camp last week and he told me that he’s real impressed with me and he wants me up at their camp. I can tell that Miami and Florida State are on the verge of offering me, especially Florida State.”
What does he like about the Canes and Noles?
"Miami puts a lot playes in the NFL and it’s close to home,” he said. “Florida State is the same thing.”
Right now Phillips has some impressive offers, including
Notre Dame
,
Ohio State
,
Connecticut
, and FAU.
“My two favorites now are Ohio State and Notre Dame because they have offered,” he said. “I also like
North Carolina State
, Miami,
Georgia
, and Florida State.”
As a junior Phillips earned second team all-county by recording 97 tackles, four interceptions and five forced fumbles.
A few weeks back in a jamboree against Palm Beach Lakes he stood out on the defensive side of the ball with 13 tackles and a couple of pass breakups.
The Glade Central is an excellent student with a 3.0 grade point average and a score of 19 on the ACT Test.
In July, he will head up to Tallahassee for the Florida State football camp.
