Florida State takes game one against South Florida 5-1 on the arm of starting pitcher Peter Miller.

Florida State took game one against South Florida 5-1 on the arm of starting pitcher Peter Miller. Miller gave up 1 run through five innings while striking out a career high 11 batters. He improves to 1-0 on the season. Freshman reliever Alec Byrd went 2.2 innings without giving up a run while striking out 4. Mr. Reliable Gage Smith came in and pitched the final 1.1 innings of the game without giving up a run. Smith has now appeared in every Florida State game but one this season.

Florida State broke the game open in the 2nd inning after Brett Knief launched a ball over the left field fence. The Seminoles added four more hits during the inning and were up 4-0 when it was over. Florida State added another run in the 3rd inning after South Florida walked a run in. The Seminoles were unable to get anything going after that, but thanks to the stellar pitching by Miller and the bullpen Florida State was able to come away with the win.

Florida State improves to 9-1 on the season. South Florida falls to 9-3. The two will play again on Wednesday at 3 PM. Bryant Holtmann is expected to get the start for the Seminoles.
