Florida State led by as many as ten points in the first half before giving up a late run that brought Pittsburgh within three with 35 seconds left. Florida State used an Ian Miller drive to draw two defenders inside before dishing it to Aaron Thomas at the three point line. Thomas hit the three and put Florida State up 37-31 at the Half.
Pittsburgh finally tied the game at 42 with 12:19 left in the second half. At this point Florida State started attacking the paint and drawing fouls. The Seminoles built a 6 point lead with 1:39 left in the game and used their excellent free throw shooting to maintain it. Despite the best efforts of Lamar Patterson Pittsburgh dropped their third straight game.
Senior forward Okaro White stepped up after a few lackluster performances in recent weeks. He had 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 walks while going 6 of 6 from the free throw line. Ian Miller added 19 points and five assists. Miller also went 6 of 6 from the free throw line. Despite being in a shooting slump Aaron Thomas scored 14 points after making 11 of his 12 free throw attempts. Montay Brandon had 12 rebounds to go with 6 points.
Pitt did everything they could to stay in the game. Senior Lamar Patterson scored the team's final 16 points and finished with 22 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists before fouling out. Talib Zanna dominated the boards and finished with 7 points and 14 rebounds. Cameron Wright had 12 points as well.
Florida State will host Georgia Tech on Sunday, March 2 with the hopes of breaking even in ACC play. Pittsburgh will travel to Boston College on Wednesday, February 26 with the hopes of ending their three game losing streak.
