Hopkins Named to All-ACC Academic Team

Hopkins becomes one of only 14 players all-time to earn honor four times.

Florida State All-America kicker Dustin Hopkins has been selected to the 51-member 2012 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic team, announced Wednesday by Commissioner John Swofford.

Hopkins and Clemson's Dalton Freeman were selected to the All-ACC Academic team for the fourth time in their careers in 2012. They became only the 13th and 14th four-time All-ACC Academic Football Team honorees in history.

Hopkins received his degree in media and communications studies before the 2012 season. He completed his career as the NCAA's all-time career leader in field goals made (88) and points by kicking (466). He was a first-team All-America pick by the AFCA. He is the ACC's all-time leading scorer and finished third on the NCAA's all-time scoring list.

It's the 59th season the league has recognized its most outstanding football players who combine academic prowess with on-field excellence.

Players must have earned a minimum 3.00 grade point average for the fall semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during their academic careers in order to be eligible for consideration. All 12 ACC schools were represented by at least one selection on the team. The team was chosen from a pool of 104 ACC football student-athletes who were nominated by their schools.
