North Carolina has found its new defensive line coach. Keith Gilmore, who has been at Illinois since 2009, will take over the position, Inside Carolina sources confirm.

Gilmore has been a rumored leading candidate because he worked with UNC Associate Head Coach for Defense, Vic Koenning, at Illinois. According to IC sources, Koenning was very involved in the search and decision.

The defensive line job at UNC opened up last week when Deke Adams left for South Carolina.

Gilmore spent four seasons at Illinois, including a 2011 campaign that ranked top-10 nationally in passing defense (5), tackles for loss (4), total defense (7) and sacks (7), and featured first-team All-American and NCAA sack leader Whitney Mercilus.

Prior to Illinois, Gilmore worked on Brian Kelly's staff at Central Michigan and then Cincinnati. The 2009 Bearcats went to the Orange Bowl, while the 2008 team ranked 8th in the nation in sacks.
