Breeland ruled out for bowl game

Bashaud Breeland

CLEMSON - After practice on Wednesday night, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney said starting cornerback Bashaud Breeland would miss the bowl game.

Breeland, who totaled 32 tackles and three pass breakups this season, has been dealing with a groin injury for a majority of the final half of the regular season.

The redshirt sophomore sustained the injury versus Virginia Tech. Although he was left in Clemson for the Wake Forest trip, Breeland played in the following three games against Duke, Maryland and N.C. State.

However, against the Wolfpack, Breeland was limited to just five snaps. And it forced him out of the season finale against South Carolina.

Swinney said Breeland would undergo surgery on Thursday.

"Hopefully, we'll get him well," Swinney said. "[Breeland] just tried to nurse it back, but it just wasn't coming like we wanted it to."

The injury is similar to the one that sidelined fellow cornerback Martin Jenkins for the season.
