Though he's since moved to Richmond Senior in Rockingham, N.C., Crowder attended Greer High School as a freshman. That's when his contact with Clemson first began.

Way back then, former defensive coordinator Kevin Steele stopped by Greer High and invited Crowder to Clemson's camp.

"Every since then, I came to camp. I went to spring practice first. They kind of just stayed in touch with me throughout the whole recruiting process, and just kind of been along since then," Crowder told CUTigers, after Tuesday morning's Shrine Bowl practice.

Defensive tackles coach Dan Brooks and offensive line coach Robbie Caldwell have maintained steady contact with Crowder.

"They're great coaches, great men, great personalities that I can really talk to about anything," Crowder said.

Georgia first entered the picture when he visited Athens for a game with Taylor Lamb, a former Greer teammate whose dad is former Furman head coach Bobby Lamb.

Will Friend, the Bulldogs' offensive line coach, serves as Crowder's primary recruiter to Georgia.

"He's a good person that you can talk to," Crowder said.

This season, Crowder visited Clemson twice, first for the Georgia Tech game and again for South Carolina.

"The atmosphere is crazy. The fans are very loud. It's just a great environment to be around for a game day situation," Crowder said.

Scout.com ranks Crowder as the No. 3 guard in the class of 2013.
