Louisiana 4A Playoff Predictions Part II

Leonard Fournette

No. 10 St. Augustine and five-star junior running back Leonard Fournette square off with No. 23 Alexandria and Texas A&M commit Shaan Washington tonight. Who will advance?

NO. 27 ARCHBISHOP SHAW (4-5) AT NO. 6 HOLY CROSS (7-2) Holy Cross, which has captured five straight wins, defeated Shaw earlier this year (30-21). This is the final year in 4A for both Holy Cross and Shaw, who will reunite with their old New Orleans Catholic League rivals in 2013. Shaw QB Quentin Gibson, a junior, slings it all over the field. His favorite receiver is senior Kent Shelby. Holy Cross has its own outstanding receiver in Kevin Spears. Last week, Holy Cross edged East Jefferson 15-14 with Todd Spriggins plunging through on the decisive two-point conversion with under a minute remaining in the fourth quarter...Shaw, 24-20

NO. 23 ALEXANDRIA (5-5) AT NO. 10 ST. AUGUSTINE (7-3) St. Augustine's offense has been explosive with Leonard Fournette leading the charge. The Purple Knights have posted at least 30 points on the board in seven games. Not surprisingly, those seven games were all wins for St. Aug, which was upset by East Jefferson in week nine. Alexandria dropped its first five games and won the last five. ASH beat Bolton last week, 57-41. This should be a high scoring game tonight in New Orleans...St. Aug, 42-31

NO. 29 WOODLAWN-SHREVEPORT (4-6) AT NO. 4 TEURLINGS CATHOLIC (9-1) Senior QB Conner Cronin has thrown for approximately 1,700 yards for Teurlings, which only lost to St. Thomas More. Cronin and the Rebels roared to victory last week (49-6) at St. Martinville. Woodlawn and senior DT Christopher Robinson, a former Ole Miss commit, saw their four-game winning streak snapped last week vs. Huntington...Teurlings, 36-12

NO. 26 WARREN EASTON (5-4) AT NO. 7 ST. THOMAS MORE (7-3) STM senior QB Brandon Bergeron has been uncannily accurate this fall, completing 190-of-281 attempts for 2,802 yards and 25 TDs (nine interceptions). WRs Jake Juneau and Seth Kelley have combined for approximately 1,900 yards receiving. Warren Easton has star power with Texas A&M LB commit Edward Williams and Tulane OL commit Jason Stewart. Easton lost to St. Augustine in week six, 60-8...STM, 49-13

NO. 22 DERIDDER (6-4) AT NO. 11 O.P. WALKER (6-2) O.P. Walker, which has two Tulane commits (Lyn Clark and Corey Smith) on its defensive front seven, looks to put the brakes on a two-game losing streak. DeRidder has won three straight...O.P. Walker, 19-0

NO. 30 ST. MARTINVILLE (5-5) AT NO. 3 LUTCHER Lutcher has allowed a paltry 61 points all year. St. Martinville gave up 49 last week to Teurlings...Lutcher, 42-0

NO. 21 MCDONOGH #35 (5-5) AT NO. 12 EAST JEFFERSON (7-2) East Jefferson RB Ronald Green, a former John Curtis player, is getting rave reviews. McDonogh #35, which is surging after an 0-3 start, has marquee prospects Kenneth Santa Marina and Carlos Henderson (Utah commit)...McDonogh #35, 14-13

NO. 20 ST. MICHAEL (7-3) AT NO. 13 BASTROP (7-3) St. Michael got off to a torrid start, winning its first five. The Warriors are paced by senior QB Brandon Fields, a Fordham commit. Bastrop counters with WR Jatavious Wilson...Bastrop, 35-29

NO. 28 NORTHSIDE (4-6) AT NO. 5 SALMEN (8-1) Three-star WR Chuck Baker, an LSU commit, is part of a balanced Salmen offense that includes QB Raymond Crochet and RB Christopher Thomas (330 yards rushing vs. Riverside Academy). Northside senior safety Orlando Calhoun has been a bright spot for the Vikings...Salmen, 21-8

NO. 19 FRANKLINTON (6-3) AT NO. 14 LAGRANGE (7-3) O.P. Walker, Barbe and DeRidder are the only losses for LaGrange. Salmen, Jesuit and Covington were the trio that beat Franklinton. In other words, these two south Louisiana squads have lost to fine competition. LaGrange is coming off a strong effort vs. Washington-Marion (34-6 win)...LaGrange, 26-22

NO. 18 NORTHWOOD (8-2) AT NO. 15 WASHINGTON-MARION (8-2) Washington-Marion could struggle if four-star LSU commit Melvin Jones is unable to play. Jones missed time due to injury earlier this year...Washington-Marion, 20-15
